San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus, who is fighting an attempt by the county Board of Supervisors to remove her, has put out a press release saying crime is down. But several types of crime have increased in the past year such as robbery, kidnapping and car thefts.

Reported robberies, for instance, increased from 54 in 2023 to 62 in 2024, a 15% jump.

Car thefts rose 8.6% to 226 in 2024.

Extortion and blackmail rose from 14 reports to 16 in 2024.

While fewer rapes were reported (down from 36 in 2023 to 27 in 2024), sodomy cases increased from eight in 2023 to nine in 2024. Similarly, the category of “sexual assault with an object” saw a 44% increase to 13 reports in 2024. And there was a slight uptick in fondling reports, from 47 to 48.

More people reported being intimidated. That offense increased from 113 in 2023 to 127 in 2024.

Kidnapping/abductions rose 25% from 36 in 2023 to 45 in 2024.

Corpus’ deputies only received one report of “human trafficking/involuntary servitude” in 2024, compared to no such reports in 2023. In 2023, deputies had one report of “human trafficking/commercial sex acts” and none in 2024.

The statistics reflect reported crimes in the unincorporated areas of San Mateo County and places where the sheriff has a contract to perform police services, Half Moon Bay, Millbrae, San Carlos, Portola Valley and Woodside. Additionally, the Sheriff’s Office provides contracted law enforcement services for Caltrain and SamTrans.

On March 4, voters will decide whether to approve Measure A, which would change the county charter to allow the Board of Supervisors to remove the sheriff. An independent report commissioned by the supervisors accused Corpus of nepotism, use of racial and anti-gay slurs, lies, secrecy, intimidation, retaliation, conflicts of interest and abuses of authority. Also during her two years in office, five inmates have died in her jails of overdoses or suicides.

  1. This is absolutely shocking. The sheriff distorted data to make herself look like she is actually a functional sheriff? I know for a fact that all of the sheriffs arrests when she was a deputy (zero.zero) helped define and focus the great work of her deputies or just the overall downward trend of certain crimes in the state. Here is a way to prove the sheriff and the Keebler elf have never had made a case and someone went to jail, not one district attorney has ever worked with or knows her. But hey distorting facts is something she is an expert at has been doing it for years. Here is to Measure A. Everyone needs to vote YES so all of us taxpayers don’t go poor paying for all of her lawsuits. They are increasing in numbers and she won’t win one case. Remember she is a sheriff you can trust, but shouldn’t

  2. So, Corpus declared crime rates are down since she had been in office, totally ignoring her own statistics that clearly show,
    • Robberies up 15%
    • Car Thefts up 8.6%
    • Extortion & Blackmail up 14.29%
    • Sodomy up 12.5%
    • Sexual Assault w/Object up 44%
    • Fondling up 2.13%
    • Intimidation up 12.39%
    • Kidnapping/abductions up 25%
    • Human trafficking/involuntary servitude up 100%

Those numbers do not look like crime is down since Corpus has been in office; quite the opposite. Five inmates died in Corpus’ time in office with no uses of force, too? I cannot see how that assertion by Corpus can be accurate.

Mr Wagstaffe, don’t your in-custody death investigations show a conflict to what Corpus’ has asserted? Mr Foucrault, don’t your cause of death investigations show a conflict to what Corpus’ has asserted? Are those fabrications by Corpus sufficient to put her on the Brady list? Are they enough to have the Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) revoke her certification as a California peace officer for a pattern of untruthfulness. Can the POST decertification process be expedited?

Not to mention that we know the Sheriff’s Office received a record uptick in HR and hostile work environment complaints, a volume never before seen in the history of SMCSO, during Corpus’ term in office with largely all due to corruption and her cronies’ abuses of the workforce.

  3. Lies AND more lies! Christina and Victor just can’t help themselves. Christina is fully responsible for all this, but she’s allowed Victor to drive her life and career off a cliff. But let me ask Christina — How do you sleep at night?
How do you breathe knowing you have destroyed your career, your marriage, your family and your reputation for this personal gain?
How do look into your children’s eyes knowing the choices you have made have caused them so much uncertainty and anxiety, uprooting their home life for what?
How do you feel knowing you tossed your family and friends aside for all of this?
How does it feel to lose everything that ever mattered to you except your false pride?
How does one justify any affair with another woman’s husband and you won’t stop?
How does it feel when people are questioning your moral character?
How do you see yourself when you look in the mirror?
How do you keep pretending you are honest and pure when your actions show otherwise?
How do you walk the halls where you are detested, where everyone scatters, and no one wants to be in your presence?
How do you look into the eyes of the employees and pretend to care about them?
How does it feel knowing how badly you have hurt so many in your destructive path?
How will you feel when you are no longer any use to Victor and he’s gone?
How does it feel knowing people want you to just go away, taking him with you?
How do you face the public when they no longer believe in any part of you and your failed promises.
How does it feel knowing there is little or no respect for you and who you have become?
How does it feel knowing you have let so many down, so many that had great hopes for you and what you might have been?
How does it feel knowing how much you have disappointed this county, this community?
How do you feel in the dead of the night when everything is still, and the silence is deafening? Whose voices do you hear?
How do you see your tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day …
How do you sleep at night?

  4. This past weekend, Corpus held a pathetic little public outreach event where she tried to covey all the positive things she has done throughout her short tenure. It was comical to see Victor, her pasty-faced troll lurking nearby. Aside from all the lies and falsehoods she conveyed, Corpus clearly demonstrated her sense of insanity and desperation. It was a sad, sad look, but it’s the only one she has.

  5. All right stop…collaborate and listen, Corpus will be out with hardly a mention.
Victor’s got ahold of her tightly, making up lies almost nightly.
Will it ever stop…I don’t know but come March 4th, we’ll watch’em go.
To the extreme she wrecked herself like a vandal, while Victor watched like a chimp with a candle.
Given the problem, the DSA solved it,
Then put her in cuffs so the DA can revolve it!
    Nice nice baby!

  6. There are many things that are not what they seem to be with this Sheriff. Beginning with her ignored HR complaints that she claims to have no knowledge about, to HR should have told her, to she knew an investigation began on Victor and was not told that she was in the report, to Mike Calagy asked her about a relationship so he is a good old boy plotting a coup on her because she’s a latina female to the investigation is a hatchet job and the plot twist narratives continues.

Yet in 9 months the Sheriff has not actually addressed any elephant in the room, the issues she is aware of and refuses to remove Victor and she tried to promote him at all costs to a tole he is not qualified for. Then took him in the see the gold letters on his unused office space while violating county orders. She doesn’t see any problems.

She has said she skimmed the report to it’s all false etc. Yet her narratives are clear forms of gaslighting issues. She has made this job about herself and not about working for the people. She has made this about wanting to work with Victor and his friends. And just remove everyone else. Seems an impossible plan to be successful alone

The Sheriff never actually addressed one problem without ignoring the unions, the board of supervisors , the city councils and just sits around thinking of what to say next pointing fingers playing an offended, victim role. All of this is truly disgusting Sheriff. When you dig your own hole, take accountability and stop lying to yourself. Just go date and marry who you want the county doesn’t have to foot the bill for you to drive to work and travel together to conferences and have demotion meetings to mess with people all day. By the way did Dan Parea have a background check or did Victor clear him? What about the new guy, is that Victors buddy too?

Let’s see what lawsuits come these next couple weeks. I am sure you can go to some yoga studio next weekend and namaste a new narrative
For your faithful tainted followers to hear. I would be sad and lonely too if was surrounded by Victor , people that don’t get honest answers to issues and former convicts all day.

Wow what a mess , just resign.

  7. Key words: “data is subject to change for a variety of factors…”

Besides the obvious, doe he know how to pull data that is accurate – the calls to service and numbers on this report don’t seem accurate. I could probably pull news articles that dispute this data- what about sexual assaults /rape, armed robbery? Which parts of San Mateo County are we seeing? The other crimes, murders, rapes are cherry picking data for the city police to claim fault and fingernpoint crime increases for crimes to the cities?

How does County data get selected for cities?

  8. Let’s see….Judges complaining about Deputies falling asleep in their court rooms, a homicide suspect walking the back hall near judges chambers unsecured without belly or ankle shackles, a female inmate raped in an elevator by a male inmate with a deputy in the elevator, inmate deaths happening at unprecedented levels, a vote of no confidence from virtually ALL Sheriff staff against Corpus. Corruption, retaliation and criminal conduct by so called sheriff Corpus and her filthy little minions. Crime is UP and will continue unless the so called “sheriff” is removed and hopefully thrown in prison. I have lost count on all the Cities supporting her being removed from office via Measure A and on and on and on and on and on

  9. I see how Fixin SMC is going to have a “voter information” forum tonight on Measure A. Weren’t these the same people who were campaigning for Christina Corpus two years ago? They should start their forum by explaining how they made such a bad choice to support her? Was it Identity Politics? Was it that she was a Progressive? Why should anyone trust Fixin SMC in the future? Answer those questions before you talk about Measure A. Fixin SMC did a grave disservice to the community two years ago — and they should own it now. Same is true for the Daily Journal, which endorsed Christina even though she had no platform or ideas. They owe their readers an apology.

  10. She’s twisted the crime statistics to make it seem as if things have been safer after she became sheriff. But it was all just a sham on her part. More robberies, kidnappings, auto thefts and more forced sodomy. How come that didn’t make it into her press release? She’s dishonest and needs to go.

  11. I don’t get it. The sheriff is constantly talking about her efforts to combat human trafficking, as if it was a major problem here, and they only had one case in an entire year? Why is she getting on the high horse about that when there are far more serious problems she’s ignoring like robberies and assaults?
