Menlo Park police arrested a suspected burglar at a construction site in a residential neighborhood on Sunday (June 16), but his collaborator got away.

At around 6 p.m., a resident in the 600 block of University Drive called police to report that two men had used bolt cutters to open a security gate at a construction site.

Police arrived and arrested Miguel Retana, 34, who was standing at the entrance to the construction site. Police checked the car that the suspects took to Menlo Park and found that it had been reported stolen in Santa Clara, police said.

Menlo Park police, with the assistance of cops from Palo Alto and Atherton and a sniff-dog, looked for the second suspect without success.

Police are trying to identify him so that they can issue a warrant for his arrest.

Retana was booked into jail on charges of burglary, conspiracy to commit a crime, possession of stolen property and possession of burglary tools.
