Police spent about 45 minutes searching the Barron Park neighborhood in south Palo Alto yesterday (March 22) after a man in a yellow jacket who mugged a pedestrian outside the Barron Park Florist on El Camino Real.

Around 4:45 p.m., the man pushed the victim and stole his cigarettes and $200 cash before heading south on foot.

The victim last saw the robber by the Valero gas station at 3972 El Camino. A witness said he went into the Buena Vista Mobile Home Park around the corner.

Police were told that the robber was overheard on the phone, seeming to be waiting for a ride, according to police radio transmissions. A Mountain View police sniff dog was brought in around 5:01 p.m.

The robber was described as a heavyset black man standing between 5 foot 6 and 5 foot 8 inches tall.

Around 5:21 p.m., a woman living in the trailer park right behind the Valero station told police that before officers arrived, she saw the man get picked up in a blue truck.

After hearing that, police called off the search at 5:22 p.m.
