Aenlle denies accusations in 9-page rebuttal (link)

Victor Aenlle, the former chief of staff to embattled San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus, has come out with an nine-page, single-spaced rebuttal to the allegations made against him in a report by former judge LaDoris Cordell.

Here’s Cordell’s report.

And here’s Aenlle’s rebuttal.

His rebuttal begins with the allegation that he has been having an affair with Corpus. He calls it “baseless hearsay” and claims the unnamed employee made the allegation after “failing to secure a promotion and raise.” Aenlle doesn’t respond to the claim that he bought Corpus $1,200 Louboutin boots and $11,000 diamond earrings from Tiffany’s. Cordell’s report includes a picture of Corpus showing off the earrings.

As for the allegation that he exceeded or abused his authority, he responds, “From the outset, Cordell failed to recognize my position and authority within the organization. As executive director of administration/chief of staff, I was a key member of the executive team, actively involved in the day-to-day operations of the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.” He said that on the Sheriff’s Org chart, “My authority was clearly represented in the organizational chart … (and) I worked under the direct direction of the sheriff on critical tasks and special projects.”

Aenlle echoed what Corpus has said publicly, that they have been trying to change the culture of the Sheriff’s Office. Corpus, who had worked in the sheriff’s office for 20 years before becoming sheriff, said the agency was dominated by “good old boys.”

“Meaningful change is never met without resistance. When you demand accountability, expect people to do their jobs, and insist on fair treatment for all, pushback is inevitable,” Aenlle wrote.

He flatly denied retaliating against whistleblowers. “Whistleblower complaints are not uncommon across county departments, yet none have been subjected to the level of scrutiny and unfair investigation that we have endured.”

He disputed the claim that he and Corpus fired Assistant Sheriff Ryan Monaghan for speaking to Cordell. “The report conveniently omits critical context and fails to hold individuals accountable for their own actions,” he wrote. He said Cordell should have interviewed Undersheriff Dan Perea, who he said was present during the firing.

The Cordell report included a picture of Aenlle and then presidential candidate Donald Trump at a Sept. 13 fundraiser in Woodside. The report leaves the impression that Aenlle maneuvered his way to be photographed with Trump.

“The Secret Service agent involved is Monaghan’s close friend. I do not recall the situation as it has been portrayed, and there was no ‘scene,’” Aenlle wrote.

Aenlle doesn’t explain why he wanted to be photographed with Trump.

It’s unclear how Aenlle’s report would be used. If voters approve Measure A on Tuesday, the Board of Supervisors will hold a hearing to determine if Corpus should be fired. At that hearing, Corpus or her lawyer would be allowed to make their case why she should remain as sheriff, and then the supervisors would decide whether to fire her.

The supervisors have already ended Aenlle’s contract with the county and County Manager Mike Callagy has barred Aenlle from non-public parts of county buildings, including the sheriff’s office. However, he is allowed to visit the non-public areas if he is accompanied by Corpus or another elected official.

At the end of the rebuttal, Aenlle puts above his name:

Wrongfully terminated,
Former Chief of Staff
Victor Aenlle, Ph.D.

  1. He is a delusional MORON! He is a questionable reserve deputy at best. He was never nor will he ever be qualified to be on the “Executive” team. Corpus has been very flagrant and reckless with her affair with a MARRIED man! She violated County Nepotism policy. They both need to be arrested for their serious criminal behavior. ENOUGH of this jackass!!

  2. Doesn’t care about titles…… yeah right He threw a fit when he wasn’t introduced as the Doctor Chief of Staff at the Santa Clara Sheriff’s graduation ceremony. They are both egomaniacs.

  3. He took a photo with Trump because that’s his idol. Duh!

I can imagine Mr Narcissist’s hand was shaking when he typed out the word “former,” than immediately erased it, and then retyped it again.

Can anyone explain why Napoleon’s bio still exists on the San Mateo County website, despite him being fired months ago?

Is there any update on the Coastside investigation of Aenlle being an alleged slumlord to farmworkers?

  4. Arnlle says Cordell erred because she “didn’t recognize my authority.”

Is he kidding? He’s a reserve deputy who apparently never passed field training to become a full-time deputy, and then suddenly he’s the sheriff’s right-hand man, commanding officers with decades more experience. Where did he get the “authority” to have that job? He didn’t earn it. It wasn’t based on merit. Of course a retired judge wouldn’t recognize his “authority”. Nobody in law enforcement in the county thought he earned that position. That’s why Christy (sic) made up his job of “chief of staff/executive director” because it had no qualifications. She couldn’t make him undersheriff, assistant sheriff or captain because you have to meet qualifications to hold those jobs in California.

  5. Aenlle goes on and on in his rebuttal but doesn’t say anything. He tries to sidestep every tough question. I don’t think this will stop the DA from charging him.

  6. Way to highlight you are informed of confidential information that you should not know- as chief of staff.

Also make it apparent that you refer to Cordell as a he and are an incompetent, uneducated loser who pretends to be someone they aren’t (PhD ,sworn law enforcement ) you have no powers Aenlle. None Joker!

    Time is up

  7. Aenlle seems to think that the public is actually interested in what he has to say. No one cares . Everyone sees he is a desperate liar. The guy is nothing without Corpus, who is on her way out. Go back to gaslighting your poor wife and selling real estate . Who would want to buy anything from you anyways ? You are a pariah.

  8. Aenlle’s nine-pages are not a rebuttal to the Cordell Report. Rather, that assemblage of Aenlle’s words is an extraordinarily weak refute of the findings and other aspects of the Cordell Report. Miriam-Webster shows us that to “rebut” is to, contradict or oppose by formal legal argument, plea, or countervailing proof; Aenlle’s words do not meet this threshold. Miriam-Webster informs us that to “refute” is to, deny the truth or accuracy of; Aenlle’s nine pages are clearly a series of mere denials to defect from the actual truth of the complaints against him.

Denials change nothing, especially absent proof. Proof such as records of text messages. Or, for example, whether the initials “CBRE” represent “Coldwell Banker Real Estate” or “Coldwell Banker Richard Ellis”; largely moot since the first two words of both are Coldwell Banker. Aenlle admits being a currently licensed real estate broker affiliated with Coldwell Banker. As such, Aenlle is bound to abide by the California Business and Professions code about realtor conduct. That would include prohibitions from engaging in fraud or dishonest dealings as a licensed realtor, in any form. The Cordell Report cites both the Government Code and Sheriff’s Office Policy regarding the appearance of conflicts of interest; Aenlle totally, or intentionally, misses the point and refutes tangential details of a business name instead of his statutory obligations.

I could go on with his self-exposed history of inconsistent and conflicting statements. Another example, Aenlle lists working three 40-hour per week jobs concurrently in his employment applications with the County; clearly inaccurate and untrue—working 120 hours per week leaves no time for sleep. Aenlle’s defensiveness remains clear as he rambles on, yet he only digs his hole of culpability deeper, standing on his record, which is dubious.

Just look at the Wozniak federal civil rights case against Aenlle where he demands the county to indemnify and defend him despite his actions as an individual contractor relative to the wrongful acts against Wozniak. Aenlle wasn’t even bright enough to run his contracts through business entities, making him personally culpable. Aenlle’s nine pages of words remarkably omit contrition, something he needs to better understand and embody. On the other hand, Aenlle has provided a substantial amount of proverbial ammunition for the County in his nine-pages of words.

History will be the final judge.

  9. I think it’s an intimidation tactic to let Aenlle parade through the sheriff’s department, as if to say, “He’s never going away.”

  10. Aenlle states: “In the face of the damage and distress this report has caused me, my family, and my profession” Is this guy kidding? What an absolute shameless troll . Coming from the MARRIED man who has been in an ongoing inappropriate relationship with the Sheriff and flaunted it for the last 3 years until he started causing problems. Aenlle is trying desperately to be relevant. At the end of all of this he will be left to go back to selling houses and gaslighting Marina. Go crawl back under your rock Mr Aenlle.
