San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus on Tuesday (July 15) appeared in a Redwood City courtroom and denied four corruption charges. If she’s convicted of the charges, she would be removed from office.

In a court hearing before San Mateo County Superior Court Judge Stephanie Garratt that lasted no more than five minutes, Corpus attended out of uniform, wearing a long brown coat. She was accompanied by her attorneys, Thomas Mazzucco and Mariah Cooks. She submitted a denial to the four charges she faces.

Corpus is expected to appear again on Monday before San Mateo County Superior Court Judge Mark McCannon. McCannon will be presiding over her trial. Corpus is entitled to a jury trial.

The civil grand jury issued four accusations against Corpus, including one count of conflict of interest and three counts of retaliation. The conflict of interest allegation pertains to her decision to hire and supervise former Executive Director of Administration Victor Aenile, with whom she allegedly had an affair. Corpus and Aenile both deny having an affair.

Retaliation concerns

The three counts of retaliation concern the termination of Assistant Sheriff Ryan Monaghan; the transfer of Capt. Brian Philip; and the arrest of Deputy Carlos Tapia, the president of the Deputy Sheriff’s Associa-

Separately, the county Board of Supervisors intends to remove Corpus from office and is in the midst of a termination process. Hearing officer, county Probation Chief John Keene, recommended her termination and the board voted unanimously on June 24 in support of that recommendation. However, Corpus has appealed and has asked for a hearing.

Supervisors scheduled the hearing for Aug. 18-29. Corpus requested that the hearing be held behind closed doors.

Parallel tracks

If supervisors were to fire Corpus, District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said he would still move forward with the civil grand jury’s accusations. If Corpus is convicted, she will be unable to hold a position in public office again, Wagstaffe said.

  1. So Mueller and Corzo don’t gave 1st amendment rights that is supposedly biased

And Corpus wants to move the venue to SF where her lawyers work with the judges and that’s not biased

    Um ok

  2. Let’s not forget!!!!!!!

Last year the congress and senate asked Corpus to step down, resign.

6-7 city council VOTED UNANIMOUSLY (mostly) asked Corpus to step down- San Carlos, San Mateo, Redwood City, Woodside, San Bruno, Belmont. RESIGN!

The Sheriff Deputy Associate, the Sheriff’s Captains (all who she promoted) have voted no confidence and asked the Sheriff to resign.

The Voters overwhelmingly voted 84% (90,000 people VOTED) on Measure A to give power to the board of supervisors to remove the Sheriff for misconduct. MORE people voted for Measure A than the number of people that voted her in. Of those no’s many of them want a recall – not necessarily supporting her.

Corpus ONLY takes interviews with Dan Noyes who defames respected personnel and defends the Sheriff and Aenlle. The public sees this biased immoral reporting!

3 independent investigators have uncovered MISCONDUCT.

A Grand Jury has indicted the Sheriff on FOUR counts of misconduct. The public watched her ARREST a union president over $950 alleged time card fraud- people have more in parking ticket fees. Resign Corpus!

People know and respect Monaghan and Phillips! Resign Corpus!

Noone respects Aenlle- not the Sheriff employees, not the public! Quit Corpus!
The Sheriff is here for herself ALONE! The voters do not want her. Resign!

This is utter nonsense and the public has had enough! There is no race card to play or county political narrative crap. Enough! Resign!

It’s not the just the unions outrage the public is too! I mean myself, the families of the Sheriff employees, my friends, my neighbors, people inwork work with, theoir families, their friends their neighbors! The ENTIRE SAN MATEO COUNTY WANTS YOU GONE CORPUS! RESIGN, quit we DO NOT care we DO NOT want you to be sheriff. You do NOT deserve that title, that parking spot, that 5th floor office. There is no community supporting Corpus, . There is no Sheriff – there has not been a community Sheriff for over a year now. There is NOONE doing a Sheriff job- she doesn’t work for the community- she hides, is a bully and immoral. RESIGN! Leave the position- WE THE PEOPLE DO NOT WANT sheriff CORPUS- RESIGN!
