Pedestrian falls under bus, body found on tracks

A dead body was found on the tracks in Palo Alto and a pedestrian was injured by a bus at the Caltrain station in Redwood City in two incidents 12 hours apart.

At 9:20 a.m. Friday, southbound train No. 306 heading from San Francisco to San Jose was near the California Avenue station in Palo Alto when the crew noticed something on the tracks and was able to stop the train, said Caltrain spokesman Randol White. The train crew determined that the object on the tracks was the body of someone who had died, Randol said.

Investigators are reviewing trackside video footage to determine when and how the death may have occurred.

On Friday night at about 9:30, a pedestrian was injured by a SamTrans bus, said San Mateo County Transit spokeswoman Tasha Bartholomew.

A pedestrian trying to catch an El Camino Real bus tripped and fell beneath the rear wheels, which ran over both of the person’s legs about 6:43 p.m., Bartholomew said. The victim was taken to Stanford Hospital, she said.
