A 58-year-old masseur, accused of sexually assaulting one of his female clients at LaBelle Day Spa & Salon in Town & Country Village, was kept in jail yesterday because of the severity of the charges against him, a judge said.

Cesar Eduardo Castro Moreno allegedly held down a 21-year-old woman by her hips and penetrated her with his tongue during a massage on April 15, authorities said.

After the assault, Castro Moreno blamed his victim for seducing him, said Deputy District Attorney Tessa Stephenson said at his arraignment on Friday (May 5).

The woman was at LaBelle for a spa day with her mother, who saw how upset her daughter was afterwards, Stephenson said.

Police arrested Castro Moreno at his home in Gilroy on May 4.

At Thursday’s hearing, Deputy Public Defender Jennifer Redding unsuccessfully argued for letting Castro Moreno out of jail, with conditions such as GPS monitoring.

He doesn’t have a criminal history and would work as a truck driver upon his release, she said.

Castro Moreno told Redding through a Spanish translator that he lives alone with his two cats, she said.

But the judge said that — assuming the allegations are true — even a supervised release couldn’t ensure public safety, and the risk of Castro Moreno hurting someone again is too great.

Castro Moreno was sent back to the Elmwood Jail in Milpitas with another court date on May 24.

  1. Well put Cassandra. That young lady must’ve been so terrified. Also can’t imagine being her mother and realizing your child was being assaulted nearby and she had no way of knowing or ability to stop it. Hope they throw the book at this guy.
