Man accused of murdering woman and disposing of her remains

A woman who grew up in Mountain View was shot and killed by a man from whom she was renting a room in East Palo Alto, authorities said yesterday. The man, who is under arrest, is believed to have wrapped up her body and disposed of her body outside of the area.

Breanna LaBat, 32, was a FedEx driver who rented a room at 107 Daphne Way in East Palo Alto. But when she wasn’t working, she lived in Stockton. She had two children, ages 5 and 14, who did not live in the East Palo Alto house, according to District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe.

Police yesterday (Dec. 30) announced the arrest of John Caisiano Thompson, 44, of East Palo Alto, who was renting LaBat the room and also lived at the Daphne Way house.

  1. They have no body and they’re charging him with murder? What happens if, on the final day of his trial, she comes waltzing into the courtroom? Wagstaffe is taking a big risk here.

  2. How rude of you to list the address! Let me find your home and post that to the world you inconsiderate writer. You should adjust the article and remove the address. How disrespectful is that!!! This country is full of hypocrites that hide behind a pencil and paper; and make moves without thinking clearly. Only in the name of making headlines.

  3. @Anger, oh how right you are! I’ve been clutching my pearls over that, like I’m sure you’re doing right now. The neighbors aren’t entitled to know that a murder happened on their street. And I’m sure that once there’s been one murder, there will be more if the address is known. That must be your logic, right? How come I have a feeling that you’re not even from East Palo Alto, and that you’re just a white liberal keyboard warrior from Palo Alto or Los Altos who wants to virtue signal?

BTW, the paper printed a picture of the house over the weekend. That would be verboten in your book too, right?

You do know that the address of a murder is a public record? That it will be mentioned at this guy’s public trial? Maybe during the trial, they could have you in the courthouse with a gag in hand, ready to plug the mouth of a witness or attorney that mentions the address?

  4. You can tell Anger Angel doesn’t read newspapers. Newspapers have been listing the addresses of crimes for as long as I can remember.

  5. If things had worked out differently, Anger Angel could have gotten a job in Washington on Biden’s censorship board that was headed by the woman who sang the Mary Poppins song.
