From staff and wire reports
A two-alarm fire hit an apartment complex at 2411 Middlefield Road near Costco in Redwood City today (May 19), damaging the second and third floors.
Jorge Delacruz learned about the fire when somebody pounded on his door, and he had only seconds to grab his keys and get out.
“There was a fire in my building and I was really scared,” Delacruz told NBC Bay Area. “There were people knocking on the doors yelling get out and when I got outside I saw the smoke.”
The fire was reported at 3:59 p.m. and firefighters had it under control by 4:42 p.m.
Fire officials said the structure is a multi-floor, multi-unit apartment building.
Tenants in the burned units won’t be able to return to their homes tonight. As for injuries, one woman was treated for smoke inhalation, but nobody was taken to the hospital.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
