Residents of Palo Alto Commons senior living community currently have an exhibition of their art on display at Palo Alto Art Center and the public is invited to its closing reception on Aug. 30. The exhibition, which runs through Sept. 1, features artwork created throughout the artists’ lives and reveals their lifelong creativity, passion and personal stories. The closing reception will take place Sunday, Aug. 30, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Palo Alto Art Center at 1313 Newell Road. The reception will include refreshments, live music and an opportunity for residents, families and members of the community to come together to celebrate the artists.
“It was so exciting to see my artwork displayed in such a beautiful gallery at the age of 90,” said Dorothy Torgerson. “I’m so proud and honored to be part of this exhibition.” Founded in 1990, Palo Alto Commons is passionate about creating opportunities for residents to remain active, engaged and connected. Just this year they took the Communities That Shine Award for Resident Empowerment from LifeLoop, an engagement, communication and wellness platform used by more than 4,700 senior living communities. Resident artists whose work is currently on display include:

• Helen Shing: Chinese ink and watercolor art
• Marjorie Groshart: acrylics on canvas
“It was so much fun to see the incredible talents of our residents,” said Ray Jadwin. “What an amazing experience!” Textile artists Henry and Millie Goltz agreed. “The opportunity to see artwork created by so many of our fellow residents was truly special and impressive,” they said. “We were thrilled to see our own contributions featured during the tour recently organized by Palo Alto Commons.” Palo Alto Executive Director Li Li said, “Seeing the pride and happiness on our residents’ faces is the greatest measure of its success.”
“At Palo Alto Commons, we believe growing older should never mean giving up the things that give life purpose and meaning,” she said. “Our role is to create opportunities for residents to continue expressing themselves, discovering new experiences, and sharing their talents with others. I am so proud of our resident artists and grateful to the Palo Alto Art Center, our team, families and community partners who helped make this exhibition possible.”
