Low levels of bacteria found in water of homes in Cuesta neighborhood

The latest tests show drinking water in 67 homes in the Cuesta neighborhood continue to test positive for low levels of coliform bacteria, the city of Mountain View said yesterday.

The homes on Leona Lane, Drucilla Drive and Carla Court haven’t had safe water for 10 days.

However, the water is negative for E. Coli.

The water was contaminated when a private contractor, hired by the city, installed a new pipe as part of a water main replacement and upgrade project.

The water can be used after it is boiled.

Without boiling, it’s OK to use tap water to bathe, shower, wash hands, launder clothing and run a dishwasher.

But don’t use it without boiling to drink or cook, wash produce, make ice or brush teeth.

The city said it does not anticipate fully lifting the “Boil Water” restrictions for the affected homes before the weekend of May 9 and 10.

The city will continue to provide resources to the affected residents, which include temporary lodging if needed; temporary shower access at the El Camino YMCA, Rengstorff Park Aquatics Center, and Eagle Park Pool.
