July 16, 1942 – April 13, 2024
Janice S. Gonzaga (81) died unexpectedly on April 13, 2024, at Sequoia Hospital, Redwood City, California.
Janice, the eldest of three children was born on July 16, 1942, to Shig and Mae Ogasawara in Puyallup, Washington in the Washington State Fairgrounds were the family lived until they were moved to Minidoka Internment Camp in Jerome, Idaho. At the end of the war, Janice and her family moved to Twin Falls, Idaho were they lived until she graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1960. Following her graduation the family moved to Palo Alto, California where Janice attended Foothill College and later went on to work at Stanford Hospital and NASA Ames Research Center.
Janice had an enormous heart and great sense of adventure. She was generous, loyal, and brave. Even at her diminutive height of 4’11” or as she would say 4’11 and 3/4” she was a force to be reckoned with.
In her spare time, she loved cooking and was always trying to find new recipes to make for those she loved. She enjoyed hosting parties where her family and friends could gather and share the meal she had prepared for them. Her love of cooking was only matched by her love of eating which included frequent trips to San Francisco to eat at her favorite dim sum restaurant.
Her departure comes as a great shock and a deep wound, and it is gravely felt by her entire family and countless others who loved her deeply. Janice is survived by her two daughters Christina Gonzaga and Nicole Gonzaga and her grandson Christian Gonzaga and many loyal friends and extended family members.
The family deeply appreciates your support during this difficult time. A memorial for Janice will be held on April 26, 2024 at 9:30 a.m. at Alta Mesa Memorial Park in Palo Alto, CA.
