The price of a new homeless shelter in Palo Alto is going up before construction starts.

LifeMoves, the nonprofit selected by the city to run the shelter, has bumped its cost estimate to build 88 rooms up by 48%, from $17.6 million to $26 million.

  1. $26M for 88 units is $300K each. Sure, that’s cheaper than a “real” housing unit, but for a portable seems like some is going to making some big bucks!
