With Covid cases falling and vaccination rates rising, some Independence Day events are back, but not all. For instance, there will be no fireworks shows in the mid-Peninsula.
The Chili Cook-Off in Palo Alto will not be occurring today, but Fourth of July events will still be held at Mitchell Park from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. They’ll have live music, food trucks and activities.
Redwood City has canceled its Independence Day parade, festival and fireworks. As a substitute, Redwood City will have a Chalk Full of Fun Festival where artists will create chalk art downtown on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Those wishing to see the art in progress can traverse the half-mile “chalk walk” between Courthouse Square and the Main Library.
Fireworks
Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View is not hosting fireworks, but there will be fireworks at Great America in Santa Clara during its Independence Day event. No fireworks show in Foster City tonight.
San Francisco will put on a fireworks show at 9:30 p.m. tonight on the waterfront.
Professional fireworks shows will be occurring at Gilroy High School at 750 W. Tenth St. at 9:30 p.m. and at the Morgan Hill Sports Complex at 16500 Condit Road at 9:45 p.m.
Whether they be professional-grade or safe and sane, setting off your own fireworks is illegal on the Peninsula and in some cities can result in a $1,000 fine.
At 2 p.m. today (July 4) in Pioneer Park in Mountain View, an open rehearsal for the Terrible Adult Chamber Orchestra of Silicon Valley, or TACO, will occur, where listeners will be able to see how an orchestra comes together to perform.
Half Moon Bay is having a downtown parade today followed by music and attractions at Main and Kelly streets until 4 p.m. A downtown parade is planned for noon. Half Moon Bay Brewing Company and Half Moon Bay Winery are among the local companies offering refreshments at the event.
