Redwood City School District’s Measure C, a parcel tax based on the square feet of a property, failed in Tuesday’s primary. The measure needed approval by 66.7% of voters.
So far the results show:
Yes 5,107 — 58.00%
No 3,698 — 42.00%
Although there are still ballots remaining that must be counted, it is unlikely the “yes” side could gain 8.7-percentage points to win the election.
Had it been approved, property owners would pay a tax based on the square footage of their home or building. The rate was 17.5 cents per square foot. The owner of a 1,000-square-foot home would pay $175 per year.
The tax would last for eight years.
Proponents argued that the funds are critical in order to offer competitive salaries to teachers. Opponents questioned why the tax was necessary since enrollment was declining and the district has closed schools.

Hoping it doesn’t pass until the district learns how to research potential teachers before hiring them. Case in point, the teacher at Clifford who’s been blackballed by two other districts. Also since it probably will pass, I don’t want to hear one complaint from a renter who voted Yes, that their rent has been raised. You vote to raise your rent by voting Yes.
RCSD has a real problem: fewer students and higher operating costs per student. This basic economic problem never ends pretty unless you are like spending other folks money.
people are tired of mismanagement of tax dollars –good im not voting for anything with
taxes –dont tax yourself
Absolutely not. Student enrollment goes down, results have been poor, and they need more funds? Get real. lol
