A Mountain View man has been arrested for allegedly stealing a gun from a gun shop, after the owner of the shop fired a warning shot, police said.
Police were called to E2’s Gun Vault at 363 W. El Camino Real in Mountain View on Wednesday (Sept. 17) on a report of a stolen handgun. Callers also said a gunshot was heard, police said.
Police found business owner Edgar Estebanez and one of his employees detaining Aaron Campbell, 33, of Mountain View, police said.
Campbell had entered the business, grabbed a gun and ran out, police said. Estebanez and an employee chased Campbell for several blocks, during which Estebanez fired a single gunshot into the air, police said.
The gunshot was not directed at Campbell or anyone else, and no one was injured, police said.
Campbell stopped running and surrendered to Estebanez, police said.
Police are still investigating the case, but have arrested Campbell on suspicion of theft of a firearm and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Police will also be asking the District Attorney’s Office to review possible charges against Estebanez for negligent discharge of a gun.
