Los Altos Vice Mayor Neysa Fligor announced today (June 26) that she is running to replace Santa Clara County Assessor Larry Stone, who has endorsed her campaign.
Fligor, 50, has been helping Stone’s office transition to a new information management system for the first time in 40 years.
Stone, 84, of San Jose, announced on Monday that he is stepping down on July 7 after 30 years in office.
His resignation sets up a special election on Nov. 4 to fill the final year on his term, followed by a regular election for a four-year term in November 2026.
Saratoga Councilwoman Yan Zhao is also running for assessor.
Fligor is termed out from Los Altos City Council at the end of next year. She works for HP as a lawyer and is president of the Santa Clara County Cities Association.
“I will produce an efficient, accurate and timely roll and keep customer service as a top priority for the office,” Fligor said in a statement yesterday.
The job of assessor is attractive with a salary of nearly $300,000 and no term limits, Stone said in a February interview. Stone said he’s known Fligor for over 15 years.
“Neysa has a unique combination of management experience, leadership acumen, people skills, assessor knowledge and political moxie to be the next assessor,” Stone said in a statement yesterday.
Will her bullying of Lynette Le Eng come up in this campaign. It should.
