Burglars break into house while residents are home

A group of burglars broke into a house in Palo Alto on Friday night while the two residents were home, police said.

The suspects are unknown and at large.

On Friday at around 9 p.m., police got a call reporting that a burglary that had just occurred at a residence on the 2300 block of Carmel Drive.

The residents, a man and woman in their 20s, were awake in the residence when they heard people talking in the hallway.  The door to the man’s room opened and he saw a man wearing a face mask.  When the masked man saw the resident, he ran out of the house.  When the woman heard the noise, she went to go check what made the noise and saw a flashlight beam in the hallway and someone running down the hall and exiting the house.        

Police discovered that the burglars had entered the home by smashing a rear sliding glass door. Nothing is known to have been taken.

Officers reviewed security camera footage in the area and determined that the burglars fled in a sedan. Detectives are actively investigating this incident.

  1. Good old Palo Alto, a town so soft on crime burglars are encouraged by the low risk and high rewards. Will the do-nothing City Council start caring about basic public safety and crime fighting so we won’t continue to be such a well-deserved, easy target due to leadership’s indifferent and negligent attitude toward crime in our city?
