Joel Todd Hochstatter

March 8, 1946 – May 2, 2025

Todd will be remembered for a life defined by kindness, generosity, and a spirit of service to all. His heart was as big as his smile. He gave his time, energy, and talents selflessly, always lifting those around him with compassion and warmth.

Todd’s love languages were acts of service and words of affirmation. He shared these gifts with everyone he met, especially the many immigrants in his apartment community whom he helped learn English. Fluent in Spanish and Arabic, Todd believed deeply in the power of language to unite people and open doors.

His dedication to others extended across a wide range of forums. He volunteered at the RWC Veterans Memorial Senior Center and taught English (ESL) at San Jose State. He brought daily comfort and guidance to patients and staff as a volunteer at Kaiser Hospital RWC. He served as a docent with reverence and joy at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco, where he will now rest in peace.

Todd’s rich voice and love of music resonated through his performances with the Song Birds and the Peninsula Folk Music Group. He found joy in the timeless elegance of Big Band Music and in the charm of classic comedies.

As a citizen of the world, Todd lived in Chile and Saudi Arabia and journeyed through Asia, Latin America, and Europe. His travels enriched his life and deepened his understanding and appreciation of different cultures and people.

Todd’s generous heart and unwavering kindness made the world a better place for those fortunate enough to know him. We will forever miss his beautiful voice and his golden heart.

A memorial will be held in RWC on June 7, 2025. Call/text Kyle at 650-547-6047 for details.
