Cyclist dies from injuries after solo crash

A bicyclist has died in Palo Alto after riding into a lane that was closed for construction, police said today (Sept. 19).

Roderick McCalley, 81, of Palo Alto, was riding southbound on Park Boulevard on Monday around 1:45 p.m. when he fell off his bike and suffered a major head injury, police said.

McCalley died at Stanford Hospital on Wednesday, the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office said.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash, which happened on the block between California Avenue and Sherman Avenue.
