Race on for council seat

At first it seemed that the two candidates who had signed up to run for Menlo Park City Council in November would have no opponents in each of their races.

But on Friday City Clerk Judy Herren has approved the paperwork of perennial candidate Greg Conlon, 91, to run for District 5, which covers the west part of the city including Sharon Heights.

The winner will replace Councilwoman Maria Doerr, who is not running for re-election.

Doerr was appointed to the seat in January 2023 after Ray Mueller was elected to the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors.

Doerr announced in May that she will be leaving Menlo Park due to both “work-related commitments and personal circumstances.”

Conlon has run for a variety of elected positions but this is his first time running in Menlo Park. Most recently, Conlon ran for Atherton City Council in 2022. Conlon was a Commissioner for the California Public Utilities Commission.

Wise, 32, and her husband moved to Menlo Park four years ago and is running because she wants to preserve Menlo Park’s beauty. She specifically wants to preserve the city’s green spaces and expand park access.

The other seat up for election this year is District 3, which includes Felton Gables, Linfield Oaks and Seminary Oaks. That seat is currently held by Councilwoman Jen Wolosin, who is not seeking re-election. Only Environmental Quality Commissioner Jeff Schmidt filed to run for that seat.

  1. He’s 91, ten years older than Biden?!

What a campaign that will be. She knows nothing and he’s forgotten everything.
