July 25, 1933 – February 29, 2024
Maria Lillian Ferrando, 90, passed away peacefully on February 29, 2024 in Redwood City. Conceived in Italy and born in the Redwood City area on July 25, 1933 to Biagio and Maria Yolanda Ferrando, she is survived by her two brothers, John and Alfred. She was affectionately known as “Aunt Lil” to seven nieces and nephews, Michael, Gregory, Johnny (deceased), Vicki, Wendee, Jennifer and Mark. She was the loving aunt who always celebrated their birthdays and life events.
As a 1947 alumni of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School, she generously donated to her alma mater throughout her life. Lil graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1951. She often recalled how on her first day of classes she had to walk up the Ralston Avenue hill in Belmont before there were sidewalks.
Lil’s entire working career spanned more than 40 years with various iterations of the AT&T phone company. She maintained close relationships with many of her co-workers and schoolmates, most of whom she outlived.
Lil loved cats, word-find puzzles, card games and needlepoint. She was active in the bowling league, and enjoyed playing in her jug band. Many of Lil’s great stories came from her adventures with the Fun After 50 Club at Red Morton Community Center, and the 1978 trip with her mother to their ancestral village in Italy.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, March 22, 2024 at 1:30 pm at Alta Mesa Cemetery in Palo Alto.
