Undersea robotics CEO arrested on suspicion of peeping

Edward Moreno

Edward Moreno, CEO of Palo Alto’s SeaDrone Inc., was arrested by Mountain View police today (Jan. 2) on suspicion of peeping inside a women’s restroom at the Panera restaurant on El Monte Avenue today.

While in the restroom, the victim heard another person in the stall next to her and then saw a man stick his head underneath the stall to look at her inside the stall, according to police. The woman screamed at the man who then ran out of the restroom and the restaurant. The victim chased the man.

The woman tried to take a photo of the peeper, but he grabbed her phone and pushed her to the ground before running off toward Marich Way, police said. He was spotted taking his shirt off and jumping a fence before returning to Panera, where he was tackled by a group of bystanders as responding patrol officers arrived, according to police.

The victim was able to identify Moreno as the man in the restroom and he was arrested for robbery and peeping. Moreno was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail.

Police detectives continue to investigate this case and are concerned that Moreno may have additional victims. Anyone who believes they were a victim of Moreno or who saw today’s incident at Panera is asked to contact Detective Josh Gould at [email protected].

SeaDrone sells an underwater robot that inspects ships.

The company’s website says, “SeaDrone Inc. grew (out) of a team of researchers from the Stanford University Robotics AI Laboratory. In 2014, aerial drone technology was progressing quickly. With prior experience developing ROVs (Remotely Operated Vehicles), O-Robotix’s founders saw how some aerial drone and AI robotics technology could radically transform the subsea robotics space.”

  1. When you pass a law allowing men into women’s restrooms, it stands to reason this problem will only get worse. Maybe the next victim will be the wife or daughter of one of these asinine progressives who are more concerned about transgender rights.

    • That’s a leap of logic that is both incorrect and insulting. Your point held a lot of value until you decided to make this a political issue rather than a human one.

  2. Some of these problems could be addressed by better bathroom design. In Asia and most of Europe, the public bathroom stalls go all the way down to the floor, so there’s no possibility of peeking from underneath. There are fewer openings between panels and on top as well. More privacy overall in foreign public bathrooms.

    • I’m no architect, but my impression is that stalls are designed to keep the feet in view to discourage the use of stalls for the, um, “romantic liasons” that some of the population engage in.

  3. Hmm I wonder if Edward Moreno is connected to the peeping incident at the Verve Coffee Shop in downtown Palo Alto last year? The descriptions of what happened and physical resemblance are similar but that guy hasn’t been caught.

  4. This IS a human issue to me. I’m a woman, and I don’t want men in the women’s restroom. It’s political to you because you’re a man. It’s insulting to me that men are allowed into the women’s restroom. Use the MEN’S ROOM WHERE YOU BELONG. Why should women have to put up with this BS because transgenders are afraid of men discrimi

  5. He’s hasn’t been found guilty of anything yet. But his partners should think about jettisoning him without delay. I’m sure it’s a big headache for them right now.

    • His partners were going to have a meeting to talk to him about that, but they couldn’t find him. He was in the bathroom.
