August 30, 1921 – April 10, 2021
Rosemary Theresa (Goggins) Martin, 99, died peacefully on April10, 2021. She was born on August 30, 1921 in the Town of Winneconne, Wisconsin to the late Robert J. and Lucile F. (Broderick) Goggins. After losing her mother, her paternal great aunt, Nell Madden, helped her father raise his five children. Rosemary and her siblings attended Guardian Angel Boarding School and then attended high school in their hometown of Omro, Wisconsin. She and her dear sister Lucile relocated to San Francisco after graduation and worked for the Federal Government. Rosemary married Jack B. Martin of blessed memory (1973) in 1948 and they settled in Palo Alto. She worked as a secretary for several California probate referees and continued working into her nineties. She lived a very full life, in 1994 she and Lucile traveled to their ancestral home Ireland. She was also very loved in her neighborhood where she lived for over seventy years. Just a few years ago she walked over to a block party with a homemade cake to share and entertained the younger generation with stories of how mid-town Palo Alto used to be. She could often be seen driving through town in her Cadillac and occasionally enjoyed a few sips of the whiskey she kept in a bottle under her sink.
Rosemary is survived by her sister Lucile Kucharczk of Virginia Beach, VA and numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and even a great great great nephew. Rosemary was blessed with a large extended family and many friends.
Rosemary was preceded in death by her dear son, Kirk E. Martin; brothers, Jerry and Robert; sister, Frances Markert; brothers-in-law, Clair Markert and Valentine Kucharczk; and sister-in-law Marjorie Goggins.
The family is grateful to Adi Caucau and her son Ratu for their loving care the last 6 1/2 years which allowed Rosemary to remain in her home.
A memorial mass will be held April 16th at 9:00 a.m. at St. Albert the Great, 1095 Channing Avenue, Palo Alto. A celebration of life will follow at noon at her home given by all the many caregivers who loved her immensely. Rosemary will join her husband, son, and brother Jerry in eternal rest at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetary in Los Altos, CA.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Thomas Aquinas Pastorial Center, 3290 Middlefield Road, Palo Alto, CA 94306.
