A gas station clerk and a robber got into a struggle over a gun during an attempted robbery at a Shell station on Woodside Road, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Department.

A 38-year-old employee told deputies that the robber entered the store at 1667 Woodside Road in unincorporated Redwood City between 12:15 and 12:45 a.m. Sunday.

The robber approached him at the counter, pointed a handgun at the employee and attempted to get behind he counter.

There was a struggle, and the employee managed to briefly take the handgun away from the robber, according to the sheriff’s office.

The robber regained possession of the gun and left the store. He was last seen walking westbound on Woodside Road. Sheriff’s deputies searched the area, but could not locate the gunman.

He is described as a white man, in his 30s, with long blonde hair. He was last seen wearing a hooded black sweatshirt.

Sheriff’s deputies are looking for witnesses and anyone with surveillance video. Anyone with information about the incident or the gunman is asked
to contact the sheriff’s anonymous tip line at 1 (800) 547-2700. — Bay City News

  1. Patrick, the sheriff is looking for clues in this case. You should call them and let them know it’s not their case, and they should hand it over to RWC police. Amazing that the sheriff’s office doesn’t know where the city limits are.

  2. The border between Redwood City and the county is on Woodside Road and most of the businesses on that side are in the unincorporated area. That’s why the sheriff responded rather than a Redwood City Police.
