TheatreWorks Silicon Valley has chosen Tim Bond to be its new artistic director, the Palo Alto-based company announced Tuesday (Nov. 12).
Bond, known for staging plays by the late playwright August Wilson, will join the company in March as founding Artistic Director Robert Kelley wraps up his 50th and final season in June.
“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to continue Robert Kelley’s great work, and to lead this spirited company into its next exciting phase,” Bond said.
Bond holds a bachelor of fine arts in dramatic arts from Howard University and a master of fine arts in directing from the University of Washington.
He began his career in 1984 with Seattle Group Theater, where he directed more than 20 productions. He served from 1991 to 1996 as artistic director, curating the company’s nationally recognized MultiCultural Playwrights Festival. From 1996 to 2007, Bond was an associate artistic director of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.
Bond then became the producing artistic director at Syracuse Stage and the Syracuse University Department of Drama in New York, where he remained from 2007 to 2016.
