Microdosing 101: Get Relief Or Simply Enhance Your Day

Caliva

Much of the hype surrounding cannabis strains these days is about concentration. Many people go for the higher THC strains. But there’s a growing trend of taking super low doses of cannabis at a time.
Microdosing, or consuming cannabis in small quantities — just enough to get the benefits without the psychoactive effects (that “high” feeling) — is ideal for many people.

Who should microdose?
Cannabis is a power-house of a plant. It’s beneficial for so many conditions, but like most things, too much of a good thing is often not the best course.

Take a 2012 study of patients with advanced cancer. It found that lower doses of cannabis were more effective for treating opioid-resistant pain, while higher doses actually made their pain worse.

For people with anxiety or depression, microdosing might be a great option. Larger doses of THC tend to increase anxiety, so treating these conditions with microdoses just makes sense. Similarly, microdosing for stress-relief is a great way to wind down after a long day. You won’t have to worry about falling asleep on the couch after one too many gummies.

Microdosing periodically throughout the day is a great way to keep your energy up, keep your mood positive and just feel better as you navigate your work day. Taking advantage of the relaxation and increased mindfulness that comes with cannabis consumption and still being able to function well at your job is pretty much a dream come true.

How much Is a microdose?
Since everyone’s tolerance is different and the threshold for psychoactive effects varies from person to person, there’s no one-size-fits-all dosing guide for microdosing. A dose of about 2.5mg is a good starting point. After the initial dose, it’s recommended that you wait 30 minutes or so to gauge the effect before consuming more.

Since THC levels in flowers and buds are highly variable from strain to strain, determining the amount you actually consume while smoking is tricky. It’s best to use oils, tinctures, or edibles like gummies, where THC concentration is clearly marked and dosages are easy to control.
