The Palo Alto Utilities Department reports that about 1,700 customers had lost their power starting at about 9:30 p.m. The cause of the outage is unknown, but likely caused by the storm. On Twitter, some residents reported hearing a bang and a flash of light. The department said they have a crew on its way and will provide updates via Twitter. The outage knocked out stoplights on Middlefield Road in south Palo Alto and the underpass at Oregon Expressway and Alma Street is flooded, as usual.
