For the eighth time this month, Stanford police have received a report of an on-campus sexual assault, according to a campus alert.
The assault was reported around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday and is said to have taken place on campus around 9 p.m. on Oct. 20, according to the campus alert issued late Wednesday night by the Stanford Department of Public Safety, an agency that receives its law enforcement authority from the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office.
In 2016, police received 45 reports of sexual assault, including 33 rapes and 12 fondling incidents, according to a report issued by the university. Those numbers were higher than in 2014 and 2015, when police received 30 and 39 sexual assault reports, respectively. At 45 assault reports per year, police would have received a report every 8 days or so, or 3.75 per month.
Three rapes, 3 fondling cases Of the eight sexual assault reports made in the last month, three were rapes, three were fondling incidents and one was a forced oral copulation.
Police didn’t give further information about the Oct. 20 assault. In all eight cases, the victims knew their assailants.
The three rapes were reported as having taken place on Oct. 1, Oct. 8 and early on Sunday morning. Sometime between 12:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. Sunday, a rape is said to have taken place on the east side of campus between two people who weren’t affiliated with the university, according to a report that was made on Tuesday.
On Oct. 8, someone went to the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose and reported that she had been raped in student housing on the south side of campus around 1 a.m. that day. And on Oct. 4, someone reported being raped in student housing on the 500 block of Mayfield Avenue late on Sept. 30 or in the early morning hours of Oct. 1.
All of the fondling and oral copulation reports were made to police by campus security authorities.
On Oct. 19, campus security told police that on Oct. 14, two people were touched inappropriately by an acquaintance in student housing.
And on Oct. 13, a forced oral copulation is said to have taken place between two acquaintances in student housing on the east side of campus, according to a report by a campus security authority
the next day.
On Oct. 5, campus security told police that a student had been touched inappropriately on the backside by an acquaintance on Sept. 29. The fondling incident is said to have taken place in student housing on the 600 block of Escondido Avenue.
