Names of the man who died after being assaulted and his alleged attacker in East Palo Alto were released by police today.
The man who died was Andres Alberto Henriquez Gomez, 52, of Menlo Park, according to the San Mateo County Coroner.
Police arrested Angel Lopez Ibarra Jr., 53, of East Palo Alto, Police Chief Jeff Liu said in a statement.
Ibarra was booked into Maguire Jail for involuntary manslaughter, assault with a deadly weapon with great bodily injury and causing great bodily injury in the commission of a felony, Liu said.
Police initially received reports at 2:07 p.m. of a male acting erratically and disrobing himself at the 2300 block of University Ave., who was later identified as Ibarra.
Police then found Henriquez Gomez, at 2:21 p.m. near Taqueria el Jarocho at 2395 University Ave., Capt. Paul Kunkel told the Post.
When police found him, Henriquez Gomez was suffering from “significant” facial injuries. He told police he had been assaulted by Ibarra.
Ibarra struck Henriquez Gomez with his hand and no weapons were involved, Kunkel previously told the post.
Henriquez Gomez was taken to Stanford Hospital where he died around 5 p.m., police said.
Henriquez Gomez’s family has set up a GoFundMe to raise funds for his funeral.
