A man has been arrested for burglary after locking himself in a Barron Park home’s bathroom, Palo Alto Police said today (July 20).
A couple in their 50s were disturbed last night (July 19) around 2 a.m. when Oscar Dario Banegas, 46, of San Jose rang the doorbell to their home on the 3500 block of Julie Court, according to police.
The male resident went outside to investigate and found that one of their cars had been rummaged through. While the man was outside, Banegas walked in through the front door, police said.
Banegas locked himself in the bathroom after walking into the home, police said. After about a half hour, the female resident heard Banegas in the home and called police.
Police arrived minutes later and had to remove the bathroom door in order to get to Banegas.
Banegas has been booked into jail on suspicion of burglary, possession of meth, resisting arrest, providing false information to police and violation of parole.

How scary. If you go outside in the middle of the night after a doorbell ring, lock the door and bring a key. This could’ve been worse, including harm to his wife.
Typical east side San Jose trash… not surprised he’s burglarizing up in PA.
We’ve had enough it here in SJ, and especially downtown.
When you gotta’ go, you gotta’ go. And when he brought in the Sunday NY Times with him, the residents should have realized that he might be in there a while.
locking yourself up nice and secure while the police are coming… is not a Success strategy. (The usual idea is get away ASAP…)
