A Woodside man accused of molesting boys testified Tuesday (May 19) that one of his alleged victims exposed himself.
Alan Frank Russell, 84, said one of his alleged victims told Russell that he was gay and then exposed himself to Russell, who maintained during his testimony that he never touched any children.
Russell, who is on trial for 14 felony charges for allegedly molesting the children of family friends, took the stand yesterday to defend himself.
During a trip, one of the victims invited Russell to his room, and Russell followed up the stairs, thinking the boy wanted to play a game, Russell said. The boy was 14 years old at the time.
“I have something special I have to tell you,” the boy said, according to Russell. The boy confessed that he was gay, and Russell believed the boy saw him as a confidant because of his sexual orientation, Russell testified. After confessing, the boy started to touch himself and lowered his own pants, Russell said.
“We can’t do this,” Russell said to the boy and went downstairs.
That was not the first time the boy had exposed himself to him, Russell testified. There was another occasion when the boy came over to his house to help him with some yard work, Russell said. The boy had slept over, and in the morning, after Russell left to get some coffee, he returned to find the boy, who was 15 or 16 at the time, with his pants down, Russell said.
A few months later, the boy bombarded Russell with irrational allegations over a phone call, Russell said.
The boy told Russell to confess they had sex together when he was 10 years old, Russell said. Russell said he was concerned for the boy because he was talking about suicide and his parents were getting divorced.
The boy threatened Russell to confess to touching him sexually or else he would tell his therapist, Russell said.
“We both know what we did,” Russell said.
Russell is accused of molesting two other young boys, who were under the age of 16 at the time of the assaults.
Deputies found over 3,000 images of child pornography depicting young boys in the home, according to court documents.
Russell is accused of molesting the first child from 1995 to 2002, from when the boy was 8 until he was 16.
