A Redwood City man has been arrested in a fatal stabbing at the Redwood City Caltrain station, authorities said today (Aug. 28).

Arrested was Jose Gomez Bustamante, 31, of Redwood City. He was booked into the Maguire Jail on no bail status on suspicion of murder and revocation of parole, according to jail records.
Joseph Carrerio, 66, died at a hospital Wednesday night after he was stabbed at the station behind the Sequoia Station shopping center.
The sheriff’s office said Wednesday that they believed the incident was an isolated event between the two men.
Bustamante is expected to appear in court on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. Deputies investigating the case are asking anyone who may have captured video or photos of the incident to submit it here.

First and foremost, my heartfelt condolences go out to the family of the man who tragically lost his life. According to the article, the stabbing occurred on August 27th, and a suspect was apprehended the very next day, on August 28th.
In light of the ongoing challenges and negative attention that the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office has faced in recent months, this swift and effective response serves as a powerful reminder of the dedication and professionalism demonstrated by the majority of its personnel. Despite uncertainty, internal turmoil, and a lack of clear leadership at the highest levels, the deputies and investigators did what needed to be done—bringing a murder suspect into custody within 24 hours.
This outcome reflects the commitment and integrity of the men and women who continue to serve their community with honor, even amidst adversity. Their work in this case deserves recognition and appreciation.
To the individuals on the ground who made this happen: well done, and thank you for your service.
Good job SO. When Corpus is kicked to the curb, time to rebuild and make the SO great again! Kudos, to all who worked this case. Swift!
He was a friend of a friend.
Go get em Jordan!!!
If the immigration department did their job, and the state in the county of San Mateo did their job and stopped letting this guy get out of jail every time, and they deported him. This would’ve never happened to Joe!
