Sheriff says she’s not going anywhere; offers employees a therapist

The Cordell report includes a copy of text messages purportedly made by Sheriff Christina Corpus using a derogatory term for lesbians.

San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus, in the wake of a report accusing her of committing misdemeanors and making racist comments, said in a memo to her employees today that she’s not going anywhere.

She said she is still “processing” the report that was commissioned by the Board of Supervisors and written by retired judge LaDoris Cordell.

Corpus refused Cordell’s invitation to be interviewed by Cordell. But Corpus wrote in her memo today that she is “completely baffled, shocked and dismayed about the inquiry and its many falsehoods.”

“Amidst all this noise, there is one thing that is certain. I am here to stay.”

Cordell said in the report: “On July 13, 25, 2022 and Aug. 15, 2022, Sheriff Corpus sent the civilian employee (#3) text messages criticizing a local City Council member by calling her ‘Fuzz Bumper,’ a homophobic slur directed at lesbians.”

In fact, Cordell included a copy of the text message of Corpus using the derogatory term (see above).

Cordell also said in the report: “In January or February 2022, a civilian employee (#3) watched a Zoom meeting in her Millbrae office in which then-Sheriff Bolanos and County Executive Callagy were discussing a matter that may have had to do with ICE. The civilian employee’s screen was muted as she watched the meeting. Then-Capt. Corpus walked into the employee’s office, stood behind her, looked at the screen and uttered near the civilian employee’s ear, ‘N—–‘ at Sheriff Bolanos — twice. The civilian employee’s adult son is biracial—(African American/Caucasian) and identifies as African American. Corpus knows her son because he volunteered for Corpus’ campaign for Sheriff. The civilian employee was stunned and upset yet remained silent out of fear of retaliation.”

In today’s memo to her staff, Corpus said: “Claims that I am a racist and a homophobic are not true. I have never and would never use those words. I respect and show compassion towards all people and this hurts me deeply.”

Corpus concludes her memo by reminding her employees that the Sheriff’s Office has a therapist, Courtney Hughes, who is available to them 24/7.

  1. Sheriff Corpus’ racial and homophobic slurs have no place in the workplace. That she had no compunction about uttering and texting these slurs to an employee is alarming and disgraceful.

  2. That’s a good one. She’s going to get them a psychiatrist even though she’s the one that needs one if she thinks she’s gonna get away with all the criminal activity and racist activity that she’s committing on a daily basis . The jig is up. Don’t worry, honey your boyfriend’s only around for the money and no matter how many you facelifts you that will not fix ugly inside . You have no honor or integrity.

  3. Somebody put out a “missing persons” report for District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe. Where is he? Why hasn’t he stepped in to stop this?

  4. Has anyone brought up the organizational assessment that was published in July? They spent hundreds of of thousands od dollars and it recommended removing Aenlle to another position iand the office loved Chris the US & Ryan the AS. Instead she let Chris quit before victor would have him fired and then fired Ryan. She is unethical and immoral
