A group of teenagers reportedly threw a firework off the Bryant Street parking garage this morning, causing a loud boom that was heard from blocks away, police said.
An explosion was reported at 11:15 a.m. by multiple callers, prompting a three-alarm response from firefighters to 445 Bryant Street.
One woman said she heard the boom while she was getting her hair done two blocks away.
Firefighters left the scene after 13 minutes, while the police investigation continued.
Menlo Park police were alerted to be on the lookout for the suspects: juveniles and young adults who took off toward Palo Alto Avenue, dispatchers said.
Two suspects were in custody at 12:30 p.m., and two suspects were still on the loose, dispatchers said.
The city is planning on turning the commercial space on the ground floor of the building into a teen center.

Fine the parents for twice the cost of coming out to deal with this and send their little darlings to jail for a few weekends.
I’m SO tired of reading police reports about the crimes committed when the perps were out on bail for their 2d and 3d and 4th convictions.
Sieg Heil jam. Stomp the life out of those “little darlings.”
Yes by all means coddle the children who find it funny to scare everybody and cause damage using illegal fireworks. I guess maybe don’t do anything and let one of them blow their hand off and learn their lesson that way.
Oh My Gosh, a loud firework! Someone should look into the over-reaction of a 3 alarm response to one loud bang. I mean really, do we want to be the new East Germany? I hate rowdy delinquents as much as the next guy but yeesh.
Guess you’re not on NextDoor and watching the videos of the REPEATED antics of neighborhood kids, bike thieves, air bag thieves, catalytic converter thieves where they gleefully give the finger to their people filming them because they KNOW nothing will happen to them.
I am and I’ve also been reading the police blotter regularly ever since various complained about multiple incidents of cars being vandalized on their streets and I rarely see those reported. In one case 12 cars were trashed on Palo Alto Ave, my friend’s being one of them. I saw what was done to his car so this is not hearsay.
Dave Price is such a small man. Stifles anyone who disagrees and is an ogre of a human
What does Dave Price have to do with this explosion? And if he “stifles anyone who disagrees” then why is your comment allowed to remain up?
You’ve got to be a fool to rely on information from NextDoor.
You would think downtown Palo Alto was in eastern Ukraine the way the esteemed local paper puts these fake news headlines on ink.
A few juveniles playing with fireworks, yawn. Clearly none of these Karens getting their hair done while still wearing an N95 mask ever did that as kids
That’s right. We don’t want the local paper to tell us what’s going on locally. It’s better if we bury our heads in the sand.
Hey, Downtown Resident, if you’re so irritated that the local paper covers local news, why do you pick it up?
