The Tesla’s stainless steel Cybertruck has had models out on the road for about a month now, and the first crash involving the hardy truck appears to have occurred on Skyline Boulevard.
Various Tesla and tech-related blogs and social media have been posting about the crash that occurred Thursday afternoon, with many interested in how the electric truck, touted to be all-terrain and have 600 horsepower, fared.
Based on pictures and dash-cam footage posted on YouTube and Reddit, the truck appears to be hardly dented, while the front of the Toyota Corolla it smashed into is crumpled.
The crash occurred Thursday just after 2 p.m., when a 17-year-old resident of Woodside was driving a 2009 Corolla southbound of Skyline, just south of Page Mill Road, according to CHP. The Corolla suddenly turned right, and hit a dirt embankment before re-entering the road, going over the double-yellow line and crashing into the Cybertruck, which was headed north.
The Corolla driver did not suffer any injuries, CHP said. The 32-year-old San Francisco resident who was driving the Tesla only had a complaint of pain, but didn’t seek medical assistance from paramedics. The two passengers in the Tesla were not hurt.
The Cybertruck was not in autonomous mode at the time of the crash, and the incident is still being investigated, CHP said.
One crash doesn’t mean that all Tesla trucks have problems. Like any new vehicle model, it will be refined over time.
