Carol Kent

As a dedicated nurse, Carol’s compassion and sense of humor touched many lives. She was a nurse for 50 years, 35 of which were at Stanford University Hospital.

Carol was born in Poona, India the daughter of Hugh Deveraux Harrison,a Major in the British Army and Monica Carol Smith Harrison. Her parents soon divorced and she returned to England. Her mother soon married Carol’s stepfather Jock Stewart. Carol grew up at Whitehouse Farm in Sussex where she was part of a family of stepbrothers and half brothers and sisters.

Carol realized her childhood dream of becoming a nurse by graduating from Southlands Hospital nursing school in Brighton, England. Shortly after graduation, Carol came to the United States with her good friend Ann Cranmer. After working in Washington DC, they went to Jackson Mississippi. Carol married William Pollard in Jackson and they welcomed a son James Pollard.

After her divorce, Carol and James came to California settling in the Mid-Peninsula. She went to work for Stanford University Hospital where she remained for 35 years.

She settled in Redwood City in 1979. She took delight in her garden, music and her cats. Carol married Edward A. Kent in 1983 and she acquired her stepdaughter Lisa Martin. Carol and Edward had a loving life together. Her love for Edward was felt until the end of her life as was Edward’s love for Carol.

She is survived by her husband Edward A. Kent, her son James Pollard and his wife Kim Oscela from Arkansas, as well as her grandchildren Hannah and Carol. She is also survived by her loving stepdaughter Lisa Martin who she always thought of as her daughter, and her children Tyler and Natalie Martin of San Carlos. Her family thanks her caregivers Mark Villanueva and Nino Perolina as well as the staff of San Carlos Elms.

Memorial Services will be held on October 26th 2023 from 10am -1pm at Crippen & Flynn, Carlmont Chapel located at 1111 Alameda de las Pulgas, Belmont. In lieu of flowers her family requests donations be made to Pets in Need, Redwood City.
