A man in his 80s has died after a truck hit him in a crosswalk in Palo Alto, police said.
Officers are looking for witnesses of the crash, which happened at the intersection of Commercial Street and Charleston Road on Monday at 10:24 a.m.
A man in his 60s was driving his 2002 Ford F-150 westbound on Commercial Street and had stopped for the stop sign at the intersection with Charleston Road, police said. As the driver began to turn right, his truck hit a pedestrian in an unmarked crosswalk, police said.
The man fell backwards and hit his head on the pavement, police said.
The driver immediately called 911 and is cooperating with an investigation.
The man died at the hospital on Tuesday.
The Santa Clara County Coroner said yesterday afternoon that he hasn’t been identified.
How sad that neither one of them were paying attention and the elderly gentleman died.
I wouldn’t be so quick to jump to conclusions. Police are doing an investigation. If they had it figured out like you Cassandra there would be no need for an investigation.
Palo Alto has a lot of wacky little intersections. There’s a merge on Galvez just pass Town & Country I’ve seen seniors come close to getting plastered at many times.
Don’t drive massive trucks that put pedestrians at a disproportionate risk.
@George, did you read the story? It was a Ford F-150, a standard pickup. Your SUV is probably more “massive.”
