A man fired a gun several times at another man at about 3:30 p.m. yesterday (Aug. 19) in Redwood City’s Hoover Park, but apparently the intended target wasn’t injured, police said.
At the time, there were a number of small children with their parents in the playground area, but nobody was on the soccer field next to the park.
However, the windows at the Boys & Girls Club were hit with gunfire. An employee was injured by the shattering glass, police said. The employee didn’t require medical attention.
Both the Boys & Girls Club and Hoover School went into lockdown following the shooting.
There were no signs of any windows or buildings struck by gunfire at the Hoover Elementary School, police said.
More than 30 police officers and two police dogs surrounded the area and searched for the men but couldn’t find them.
Then, after the search for the men was finished, police took a closer look at the grass field of Hoover Park and found 9 mm gun casings.
“Statements taken from witnesses at the scene appear to conclude the shooting was between two male adults and there is no ongoing public threat at this time, and there are no hospital reports of anyone struck by gunfire,” police said.
Police said detectives are continuing to investigate the shooting.
