The Jack in the Box in San Carlos was gutted by a fire June 26 that broke out from inside the restaurant, though the cause of the $1.75 million fire is still unknown.
Firefighters were called to the restaurant at 1100 El Camino Real at 5:24 a.m.
A flash and popping sounds
At 5:13 a.m., video surveillance captured a flash and popping sounds coming from under the drive-thru register, according to a report by Fire Detective Daniel Shugart with the Redwood City Fire Department. San Carlos contracts its firefighting out to Redwood City.
Surveillance did not capture any unattended cooking before the start of the fire, according to Shugart.
Fire near the cash registers
An employee said cooking appliances appeared to be working normally before the fire, and saw the fire burning from the floor area adjacent to the cash registers. An employee also said it smelled of burning rubber and electrical cables, according to Shugart.
An electrical fire cannot be ruled out. The investigation is ongoing. The loss was put at $1.75 million.
The drive-thru window area appeared to have the most damage from the fire.

Such a horrible eyesore!
How long do companies have to clean up???
Ridiculous!
With Gavin Newsom’s $20 minimum wage for fast food, the owner is going to replace this restaurant with a highly profitable office building.
