A developer has applied to build an eight-story building with 156 apartments in Palo Alto, replacing the Chipotle at the corner of El Camino Real and Sheridan Avenue.
The 85-foot building would have 200 parking spaces and retail space on the first floor, developer Tim Walling of Redondo Beach said in the application on Thursday.
The project covers two properties at 2675 El Camino Real and 450 Sheridan Ave. — two blocks away from California Avenue and across the street from the Mayfield Soccer Complex.
Palo Alto City Council has planned for hundreds of new apartments along El Camino Real.
To change the city’s rules for what can get built there, Walling would rent 16 apartments below the market rate.
