East Palo Alto police have arrested a man following an assault this afternoon (Sept. 3) that led to the death of a 52-year-old Menlo Park man.
At 2:21 p.m., police responded to the 2300 block of University Avenue after receiving a report about a man acting erratically and disrobing in public.
When police arrived, they said they found a Menlo Park resident who was suffering from “significant” facial injuries. He told police he had been assaulted by another man.
Police found and arrested the other man who had been identified by the victim. Officers booked him into the San Mateo County Jail for assault resulting in great bodily injury and a parole violation.
Police said they are not identifying the suspect at this time while the investigation proceeds.
At 5 p.m., Stanford Hospital told police that the victim had died due to his injuries.
Police said they are continuing their investigation.
The last murder in East Palo Alto was on April 8, 2024.
