Police looking for assailant in El Camino attack

A man in his 70s was hit in the head from behind on El Camino Real in Palo Alto in a possible case of elder abuse, police said.

The assault occurred about 6:20 p.m. Friday as the man walked to his car, police said. The location is not far from Stanford University’s Escondido Village graduate student housing.

The victim told police he was attacked in a private parking lot in the 1800 block of El Camino Real north of Leland Avenue. 

The man reported the attack in a call from Sundance Steakhouse, where he was met by police and firefighters. Paramedics took him to the hospital.

Police searched the area and detained a man in his 40s for investigation but ultimately released him.
