Palo Alto Mayor Vicki Veenker has pulled papers to run for a second term on council.

She’s the fourth potential candidate, joining Councilman Ed Lauing, Parks Commissioner Yudy Deng and Planning Commissioner Bryna Chang.

Veenker declined an interview yesterday until she’s officially on the ballot.

Veenker’s campaign treasurer is Hsinya Shen, a member of the city’s Public Art Commission. Her assistant treasurer is her husband, Tim Crockett.

Veenker, 63, works as a patent attorney and mediator and lives in the Leland Manor neighborhood.

  1. It will not be possible for me to support Ms. Veenker for reelection. She does not act in the best interest of the people who elected her four years ago.
She and others on council are responsible for the fifteen day loophole which opened the way for the full effect of SB79 for fifteen days. This hurts real people businesses and property owners!
She also voted to reappoint Mr Peterson to the planning commission despite the concerns voiced by a local
Business of ethical concerns that prompted a whole investigation by the city that had not yet been made public.
Why was such an important decision about a state law made in the 11th hour with the added pressure created by being the last meeting before the Councils summer break and the new law going into effect?

  2. Of course she declined an interview. She’s got a lot of explaining to do. A short list. Why did she reappoint Forest Peterson? Why did she support/enable Julie Lythcott-Haims? Why did she vote to ban gas-powered water heaters and space heaters? Those are just recent events. Yeah, I doubt she’ll ever do an interview with any reporter.
