Man confronts burglars in his own house

Palo Alto police are looking for a group of burglars who broke into a home on Maple Street — while a resident was home. Maple is a one-block street between University Avenue and San Francisquito Creek.

The burglary was reported around 8:36 p.m. Thursday (Feb. 5) at a residence on Maple Street in the Crescent Park neighborhood, according to the police.

A man in his 60s told police he was in the basement when he heard a noise upstairs and went to investigate. He saw an unfamiliar person standing in the dark. He went back downstairs, and called the police.

Then the resident then heard a burglar yell and saw three people run out the front door.

Officers arrived within minutes and canvassed the area, but couldn’t find the burglars, police said.

Investigators determined the suspects entered the home by smashing a rear sliding glass door. It was not immediately known what, if anything, was taken.

Security camera footage showed the suspects arrived and fled in an SUV, police said.
