A woman died after a fire at a detached garage in North Fair Oaks broke out early Friday, prompting an investigation by the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.
The fire was reported at 4:36 a.m. at 640 Hurlingame Ave., where crews arrived to find the detached garage in flames, which were threatening the main residence, sheriff’s officials said.
Marie Jamie Arnais Cabrera, 31, of Redwood City, was removed from the garage and life-saving measures were attempted, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other people were able to escape from the fire unharmed, and other nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The cause of the woman’s death and the fire is under investigation, and deputies are still assessing the structure, according to Redwood City spokesman Nick Mathiowdis.
