San Mateo Sheriff Christina Corpus was showered in expensive gifts by her alleged paramour and Chief of Staff Victor Aenlle, according to a county report.
Two gifts mentioned in retired Judge LaDoris Cordell’s report included $1,200 Louboutin boots and $11,000 diamond earrings from Tiffany’s.
In a text message attached to Cordell’s report included a text message from Aenlle to Corpus asking her to “send me a pic of your sparklies.”
Corpus responded by sending a picture of herself with the $11,000 earrings.
Cordell’s report said Corpus has an “intimate relationship” with Aenlle. She promoted Aenlle to assistant sheriff on Wednesday when the county’s board of supervisors eliminated his job as chief of staff.
Corpus has responded by saying they are only friends. Aenlle has also denied an affair with Corpus.
During the meeting, the supervisors voted to approve a resolution saying they had no confidence in Corpus and they called for her to resign.
County Executive Mike Callagy barred Aenlle from any parts of the county properties not open to the public, meaning he can’t return to his office in the sheriff’s building.
Returning to the subject of Aenlle’s gifts, a civilian employee told Cordell that in December 2021, Corpus showed off the red-bottomed Christian Louboutin boots purchased by Aenlle and told her she was keeping them in her car to hide from her then-husband, sheriff’s Lt. John Kovach. The employee told Cordell that she saw the receipt that showed Aenlle had bought the $1,200 boots with cash.
About a month later, on Jan. 27, 2022, Corpus told the employee that Aenlle gave her $12,000 in cash to buy diamond earrings at Tiffany’s. According to Cordell’s report, Corpus Facetimed the employee to tell her about her $11,000 earrings which the employee said she wore every day thereafter.
Cordell’s report documented evidence of the affair.
For instance, an employee said that she saw Corpus and Aenlle leaving the station together after work most days beginning in January 2022, according to Cordell’s report.
Corpus and her then-husband regularly argued when Aenlle drove her home, according to the employee. Cordell reports that Corpus’ husband would tell her “I know you were with Victor.”
In March or April of 2022, Corpus called the employee telling her to get Aenlle “right now” because Corpus’ then-husband had found out about their affair and was upset, according to the report. The employee reached out to Aenlle afterward and he told her Corpus was “in bad shape.”
When Corpus won the sheriff’s race in June 2022 and gave her victory speech, Cordell’s report states that Corpus thanked her then-husband, which led to an argument between Corpus and Aenlle.
The employee heard Aenlle tell Corpus, “It’s over. It’s over. We’re done,” Cordell’s report states. Corpus allegedly followed Aenlle while crying and pleading with him.
As both sides have been throwing accusations at each other, Corpus claims that much of this is happening because she is a member of the good ole’ boys club and because she is a disrupter.
But Supervisor Noelia Corzo, who campaigned for Corpus in 2022, said at Wednesday’s meeting she was “surprised, disappointed and honestly just in awe” of what she read about Corpus in the Cordell report.
“The sheriff is not a victim of any good ole’ boys club,” Corzo said. “She is the most powerful person in the sheriff’s office, the top law enforcement agent in this county, and she needs to be held accountable.”
I should have gifted Matt PC 57 Foxy a Miranda Card.
So may “ragrets.”
Absolutely shameful! Governor Newsome and the State Legislature should reconsider Corpus’ appointment to the Board of State and Community Corrections (July 2023). She taints everything and everybody she comes into contact with. “We the People” deserve better than this. Even our incarcerated population should not be subjected to this despicable excuse for leadership.
