Clement (Butch) Eugean Hawes

October 13, 1938 – June 4, 2024

It is with great sadness that the family of Clement Eugean Hawes, lovingly known as “Butch” announce his passing on June 4, 2024 in Woodside, California. Butch was born to Margaret Inis and Edson Eugean Hawes on October 13, 1938 in Painesville, Ohio. His family later moved to California where Butch grew up with his brother Edson (Sibby) Eugean Hawes Jr., and sister Verjean. Butch later married, bought a home with his wife, Bette Anne Hawes, and raised their own family in Palo Alto, California.

Butch shared 63 years of loving marriage with his wife and best friend, Bette Anne Hawes. He was most proud of the life and family they created. He was a present, supportive and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He was always there for others, cheering from the sidelines, and lending a helping hand.

Butch started his career at Beckman Instruments in Palo Alto at the age of 24. He was well respected by his colleagues and those who worked for him. He took pride in his reliability and work ethic. These were characteristics that he carried through all aspects of his life. Butch worked at Beckman for over 40 years before retiring. He maintained lifelong friendships from Beckman that brought him much joy throughout his life.

Butch enjoyed hunting, camping, listening to music, playing his harmonica, gardening, riding motorcycles, collecting old cars, and always enjoyed a party! He loved going to baseball games and rooting for his Giants. He always looked forward to traveling to the family cabin, going to visit his brother Sibby in Oregon, but most of all he found the greatest joy in spending time with his beloved family.

Butch is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bette Anne Hawes, his children Jeffrey and Michelle (Bateman) Hawes, Berina Hawes, as well as his three grandchildren Tiffany (Hawes) and Michael Jorgenson, Priscilla Hawes, Garret Hawes, three great grandchildren, Emily Jorgenson, Julia Jorgenson, Poppy Jorgenson, and brother Edson (Sibby) Eugean Hawes Jr.

He brought so much joy and light into our lives and had the kindest heart and smile. For all the lives he touched, we are the blessed ones. He will be lovingly remembered forever. Our hearts are full of love and memories that we will forever cherish.
