Nurses vote to drop union

Nurses from Palo Alto Medical Foundation facilities in Sunnyvale and Mountain View have voted out a union from the workplace, according to the National Labor Relations Board.

Nurse Malgorzata Nepali spearheaded the effort and gathered enough signatures for an in-person election on Feb. 28 and 29, said Jacob Comello, a spokesman for the anti-union National Right to Work Foundation.

“A successful decertification vote strips union officials of both forced-dues power and monopoly bargaining privileges,” Comello said.

A majority of nurses voted to kick out Engineers and Scientists of California, a local chapter of the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers union.

Representatives for the union couldn’t be reached yesterday.

The vote affects all nurses at an infusion oncology department and other hematology departments at 301 Old San Francisco Road in Sunnyvale and 701 E. El Camino Real, in Mountain View, the Na- tional Labor Relations Board said.
