Carjacker hits victim, tries to torch car an hour later

A driver was hit over the head and pulled from the car by force during a carjacking on Marshall Street in Redwood City, police said.

The carjacker then drove off with the vehicle. The carjacking occurred in front of an apartment building in the 1400 block of Marshall Street on Friday at 7:11 p.m.

At 8:06 p.m., the victim’s car, a green Toyota Camry, was found near Bay Road and Charter Street in Redwood City. The carjacker had lit the Camry on fire.

The victim said the carjacker was a black man, about six feet tall, heavyset, wearing a mask and orange construction jacket or vest.

He was last seen running north on Bay Road. He may have suffered burns or other injuries after trying to burn the car.
